US Embassy, Nine Elms — De Lank granite, London

US Embassy, Nine Elms

2016–17

The United States Embassy at Nine Elms, opened in 2018, is among the most secure and most costly embassies ever built, a glass cube set in its own landscaped grounds on the south bank of the Thames. De Lank granite was supplied as large format flamed cladding, panels of 2.2 metres by 1 metre, in over 1,000 linear metres. It was one of the most technically demanding commissions in the quarry's history. Panels at that scale, cut to fine tolerances and given an even flamed texture across every face, leave no room for variation in the stone, which is precisely why a single, consistent source like De Lank was specified.
