Frequently asked questions
How are the slips produced?
De Lank Quarry has recently invested in new precision cutting equipment that enables our stonemasons to slice a slim but complete face from natural stone walling pieces. It even enables us to cut L-shapes for corners. The slips exactly like solid traditional stone, but are only 15-25mm thick.
What styles and colours are available?
We can cut natural stone slips from any of our walling stone products, which means you can choose from over 30 different styles, colours and stone types. De Lank Quarry is one of the UK’s leading natural stone suppliers, offering the widest selection of British stone sourced from local and UK-wide quarries. We’re pretty confident that if you have a stone in mind, we can make a slip for you!
How do cladding slips differ from stone panels and cladding systems?
Our slips are made from complete, full-face pieces of natural stone. Stone panelling is made up of thinner strips, usually offcuts; these are highly stylised and have a strong visual impact but do not look like traditionally-built stone wall. Cladding systems include a framework that allows a cavity between the building and the outer material; they usually require large format fixed panel shapes and are not intended to look like a real stone wall.
How do I clean and maintain natural stone?
One of the many advantages of using natural stone is that it ages gracefully and weathers beautifully. As such it needs very little cleaning or maintenance. However, if the wall is somewhere damp, shady or likely to be splashed with earth, then routine cleaning with a hose will prevent build up of unwanted algae, lichen, moss and dirt. But remember if you are cleaning anything that has been pointed, avoid high pressure washing so as not to undermine the pointing.
What’s the minimum order?
You can order from one square metre of natural stone cladding slips.
What’s the delivery charge?
Delivery of our natural stone cladding system is considerably cheaper than normal facing stone, because there is a lot less material required to cover the same amount of walling. We deliver right across the UK, and our charges depend on the quantity, weight and distance. To calculate an approximate idea of delivery cost just put the required quantity in the online Basket and then enter your postcode. You can do this before finalising your order.
